Chelsea EXCLUSIVE: Tony Cottee reveals why Blues should sign Higuain over Arnautovic

Sports World

That is the opinion of ex-West Ham and England hitman Tony Cottee.

The Blues have been linked with both Higuain and Arnautovic this transfer window amid a striker crisis that has seen usual winger Eden Hazard lead the line in recent weeks.

Strikers Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud have struggled to hit the mark this term, scoring a combined six Premier League goals.PROMOTED STORY

And boss Maurizio Sarri has delved into the transfer market in an attempt to try and fix the problem.RELATED ARTICLES

West Ham forward Arnautovic was linked with the Blues earlier this month, having impressed in the first half of the season.

But the player who looks more likely to join the west London side is Argentine forward Higuain.

The Juventus man, currently on loan at AC Milan, is believed to be closing in on a loan deal at Stamford Bridge.

And Cottee, who scored 78 goals in 220 Premier League matches, thinks Blues bosses are making the right choice in pursuing Higuain, 31.

“I like Higuain, he’s a good player, a good centre forward,” Cottee said.

“Let’s not forget Marko’s only recently converted into a centre forward, whereas Higuain has always been in that position and it’s a specialist position.

“I could see Arnautovic doing a job for Chelsea, of course he could, but you can understand why they’d go for a player like Higuain.”

Higuain is just a “few hours away” from to completing his move to Stamford Bridge, according to Sarri.

The pair worked together at Napoli for a season, where Sarri appeared to get the best out of the hitman.

The 2014 World Cup finalist banged in a record-equalling 36 goals, earning a £75m move to current club Juventus.

Higuain continued to impress following the switch, scoring 40 goals in two seasons at the Juventus Stadium.

But he has struggled in his first six months of a loan spell at AC Milan, prompting the decision to move on early.
